She has always been more of an actor than a dancer, but Manisha Koirala is doing everything to explore her love for the art form. Not many know that she has been taking salsa lessons from choreographer Sandip Soparrkar since the past year and loves every moment of it.
Says Manisha, “I have had a fetish for dancing since childhood, but it’s only recently that I started exploring Latin-American dance forms. I think it’s quiet a fluent dance technique, and makes you feel happy.” And not only is she exploring the dance form, the actor is also doing her bit to encourage Indians to master the art.
Manisha is all set to support professional dancers from Sandip’s institute who will represent India at the Asian Latin- American dance championship this weekend in Hong Kong.
“There is a warm-up session today for this dancer couple who stood fourth in Sri Lanka and will now go for the championship in Hong Kong. In fact, if they manage to feature in the top twenty at Hong Kong, they will get a chance to enter the Asian games,” she explains.
Manisha might even break into an impromptu jig at the session today. “Many of my cousins are into salsa, so I have more reason to experiment with it,” she says. However she has been a trained classical dancer since the age of three and chooses to stay loyal to her love for Kathak.
“Kathak is something I have done ever since I was a kid and I definitely relate to it much more. Salsa is new, and I guess every genre has its own charm. Plus, I’ll always have the choice of using this talent in my films,” she adds.
Well, with someone as gorgeous as her doing salsa, we think this will surely be a treat to watch onscreen!
